Join us at Heroes World for our Learn to Play Magic: The Gathering Workshop, a relaxed, beginner-friendly introduction to the world's most popular trading card game.
No cards? No experience? No problem!
We'll be using Magic: The Gathering Beginner Boxes and Welcome Decks to teach you everything you need to know to play your first game. All cards and materials needed for the workshop will be provided.
What You'll Learn
Our staff will guide you through the fundamentals of Magic step by step, including:

The goal of the game – How to win your first game of Magic.

Understanding the cards – Learn about creatures, lands, spells, artifacts, enchantments, and more.

The five colours of Magic – Discover the different play styles and personalities of White, Blue, Black, Red, and Green.

Casting spells & paying mana – Learn how lands and mana work and how to play cards from your hand.

Combat – How attacking, blocking, and creature combat work.

Your turn – Learn the different phases of a turn and what you can do during each one.

Abilities & card effects – An introduction to reading cards and understanding common abilities.

Playing a complete game – Put everything you've learned together and play!
Never Played a Trading Card Game Before?
That's completely fine! This workshop is intended for true beginners, including people who have never played Magic or any other trading card game.
By the end of the workshop, our goal is for you to understand the basics, be comfortable playing a game, and know enough to join other casual Magic players at Heroes World.
Everything you need to play will be provided. Just bring yourself and be ready to learn!
